I picked up this Heathkit GR-64 Shortwave Receiver on eBay in 2016 for $75. The unit was already restored. Except for a few scratches on the cover, the unit was in very good shape for being this old. It worked on all bands.
These are four tube single conversion super heterodyne radios. The inside was very clean and almost all parts are original. Very few parts had been replaced in the restore. Because these were "kits" the quality of the build can be random. Luckily, this one was assembled with care and throughout the years had not degraded. Originally these kits sold for $40.
Later, I got a matching Heathkit GD-125 Q-Multiplier from a seller on eHam.com. It was in perfect working order when I got it so no restoration was needed.
I purchased this because I had one just like it that my dad got me for Christmas 1967. We build it together and that is how I learned about electronics and radio. Listening to shortwave at age 13 taught me about geography, other countries, other languages, and other cultures.
